Intentional re-implantation is a surgical procedure where the entire tooth is removed and treated extraorally. This allows our endodontists to inspect the tooth microscopically to determine the cause of failure. If the tooth is deemed salvageable it is treated out of the mouth and reinserted in the socket. The tooth slowly regains its stability and the procedure eliminates the source of the infection.

When Is Intentional Re-Implantation Used?

This endodontic treatment is used as a last resort to save the tooth after exhausting traditional methods, such as retreatment or an apicoectomy. If this treatment fails to heal the tooth, then an implant is the only other option.
